About Beatrice Lacey Beatrice was born in London in 1957 and studied in the late 80s at Goldsmiths School of Art. She also studied anatomy at the London College of Surgeons. She has worked as a freelance artist since 1984 and now lives and works in Hastings, East Sussex.
Beatrice studies the human form through her life drawing, painting and photography, which has enabled her to produce a wide portfolio of figurative work. Her goal is to create a visual language for the figure and she defines herself as a figurative draftsperson and painter. The prime source of creativity of all her art is the sympathetic nature of the viewer and poetry of the figure. The figure gives life to the art and human meaning to the viewer. Beatrice does not represent the body in a photo realist way but turns it into a rhythmic reinvention of abstract responses.
Her most recent art draws its inspiration from notions of internal landscapes inspired by jazz and voice production as singing is her other passion.
