Mark French

Mark is a Hastings resident who has a studio in London, where he films for most of the major broadcast and commercial companies. He also lights for feature film including those of Nick Broomfield. Occasionally he makes short films about artists and poets, and was inspired to do this one by finding an early painting by Laetitia in a rummage shop. He tracked her down and together they conceived of a biographical film documenting her life painting the fishermen. The result is a record of a disappearing world and an extraordinary cycle of paintings that capture it. All the paintings that feature in the film are included in the exhibition. Some of them have never been seen before, and Hastings Museum and Art Galleries have lent two from their collection.
